Mini Book Review: All of Us Villains

All of Us Villains - book review

You Fell In Love With The Victors of The Hunger Games. Now Prepare To Meet The Villains of The Blood Veil.

How amazing does that tagline sound?!?!? I had immensely high hopes for All of Us Villains after reading the above description and I am so excited to say that I absolutely was not let down. For me, this was an exceptional book and it has received my first 5 star rating for 2021. It is by far my favorite book of the year and I can’t wait for it’s publication day on November 9th.

All of Us Villains is essentially Hunger Games with magic. Let me repeat that, HUNGER GAMES WITH MAGIC!!! There are two aspects of this book that made it fly to the top of my ratings for the year. The first, was the use of multiple perspectives, and the second was the fact that every character was depicted as morally grey. These two things coupled together created my perfect scenario! Multiple perspectives can be very difficult to successfully pull off, but I have always wanted to read a novel full of characters that I didn’t know who to “root for”.

In the Hunger Games, we knew to root for Katniss. In Divergent, Tris, and so on…

In All of Us Villains we have multiple morally grey characters who are all making terrible decisions at times, but are also deeply human as well. You are left feeling conflicted about who is “good”, or “right” or the “heroes” of the story…Which means every character is fair game when it comes to who is spared and who is killed off. That is the perfect bookish scenario for me. (I promise I’m not weird I just love the adrenalin that this brings while reading!)

You can read the first 10 pages of the book on the authors website

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games - books like All of Us Villains
This is the obvious choice since it’s written into the back blurb of the book but it’s important to remember that a lot of people who like The Hunger Games are not typical “book lovers”. The Hunger Games has the unique ability to appeal to people who do not necessarily normally love to read. I feel that All of Us Villains might break that same mold and appeal to non book lovers and book lovers alike.

The Diabolic

Both novels depict morally grey characters in really interesting ways.

Dark Fantasy and an Intricate Magic system fantasy readers will love.

I have been in a dark reading mood lately picking up thrillers, gothic novels and dark fantasy! I recently read Mexican Gothic and #Murdertrending and still feel the need for more darkness! As I wait for Empire of the Vampire to come out I would love any and all other darker themed book recommendations. Feel free to leave them in the comments down below.

Also, check out The Shadow in the Glass review for another dark fantasy recommendation if you are in the same boat that I am!
