Serpent and the Wings of Night: A Perfect Book to Read after ACOTAR

Is Carissa Broadbent the next Sarah J Maas and will you become obsessed with Serpent and the Wings of Night? Yes, on both accounts. If you are on Booktok (the bookish side of Tiktok) you know that Carissa’s Serpent and the Wings of Night has slowly been gaining traction on everyone’s FYP who likes Fantasy Romance and Sarah J Maas. And because Regina George was reading it, I of course had to read it too. (Yes, I also wore army pants and flip flops for a while…and if you do not get this reference, I must be very old).

BUT LET ME TELL YOU, I AM SO THANKFUL I CAVED TO THE PEER PRESSURE AND READ THIS BOOK! THIS GAVE ME TOTAL ACOTAR VIBES, GAVE ME A NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND TO DROOL OVER AND I AM OFFICIALLY OBSESSED. BOOKTOK DELIVERED THIS TIME AND I NEED ALL THE FANTASY ROMANCE BOOKS I CAN GET IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Here are a couple of other books Sarah J Maas lovers might like too!

The Serpent and the Wings of Night

SERPENT AND THE WINGS OF NIGHT BOOK COVER

Serpent and the Wings of Night has the same bingeable and addictive reading style that ACOTAR and Throne of Glass delivered, and you will instantly crave more. The next book in this series comes out next month, April 2023 so you won’t have to wait long to sink your teeth into more. If you are looking for that same all-consuming feeling that ACOTAR or Throne of Glass gave you, this might be your next obsession.

The book follows Oraya, a human girl who is rescued from a war-torn city by the Vampire king. He raises her as his daughter and when she is grown, she enters the Kejari. The victor of the Kejari will be granted one wish, but they must be the last person standing and fight to the death. While in the tournament Oraya allies herself with another vampire and they must tread their budding relationship carefully, as only one can survive. THE DRAMA AM I RIGHT?!?!?!?

I love drama, I love vampires and I love a good fated mates fantasy romance with a good slow burn tension through out. For me this is a 5 star read when it comes to entertainment and binge ability.

Key points to convince Sarah J Maas lovers to read Serpent and the Wings of Night

Immortal, highly attractive winged men

Fantasy Romance

Spice (towards the end of the book similar to ACOTAR)

For more spicy reads try these

Enemies to lovers

Strong female lead character

Similar writing style (In my opinion)

More key points to convince you to read Serpent and the Wings of Night

Tournament to the death

Slow burn

Vampires!

Morally grey characters

Interesting fantasy world

Daughter of No Worlds is the next Carissa Broadbent book on my list and I am very excited to read it, but I have heard that it doesn’t quite deliver in the same way that Serpent and the Wings of Night does. It seems as if it might be closer to “high fantasy” and “war fantasy” then Serpent and the Wings of Night. This does not necessarily sound like a bad thing to me, however it is different than ACOTAR and Sarah J Maas. Regardless, I will test it out for myself and let you know my thoughts.

Please let me know if you pick up Serpent and what you think! I would love to know if it delivered the same feelings that ACOTAR elicited in you! Find me on Instagram so we can fangirl together and maybe buddy read Ashes and the Star Crossed King.
