WandaVision: Thoughts and Theories After 5 Amazing Episodes

Anyone else’s minds completely blown after watching the last couple of episodes of WandaVision? It is so good!!! I feel like I have been deprived of MCU content for so long and it’s very exciting to have a new Marvel show to obsess over. Especially one with my favorite Avenger: The Scarlet Witch. The episodes are always WAY too short for my liking, but we have still been given a good number of juicy details to dive into.

Let’s do a fast recap of what we have seen on WandaVision.

WARNING: There are spoilers for WandaVision here so if you are not caught up with the series proceed with caution!!!!!

Episode One: Wanda and Vision are essentially inside a tv sitcom in the 1950’s, similar to that of I Love Lucy. No one knows what is going on, and that isn’t limited to the viewers. It would seem that Wanda and Vision are clueless to what is happening as well. They both see a heart drawn on their calendar and have no clue as to what it could be for. Wanda eventually decides it MUST be an anniversary of some kind and enlists the help of a neighbor for help. Turns out the heart represented a dinner with Vision’s boss, the Hart’s, and the two quickly scramble to make a grand dinner for the evening.

Wanda has full use of her powers as she turns an uncooked chicken into first a burnt piece of meat and then into an egg…Vision later uses his power to save his boss from choking. Evidently no one has heard of the Heimlich maneuver and Vision’s only option is to magically stick his hand through his boss’s throat. The Hart’s either choose to not notice the strangeness of the evening, or they are really not very observant.

Episode Two: Wanda and Vision’s tv sitcom has advanced to a 1960’s setting now. The show is still in black and white though so Wanda is puzzled when she suddenly sees a red toy helicopter pop out against an otherwise black and white surrounding. Vision accidentally swallows a piece of gum which makes his internal computer system go haywire. This evidently translates into a drunk Vision.

The town is preparing for a talent show, and Wanda has volunteered herself and Vision to perform an act. Unfortunately, Vision’s intoxicated state has him revealing his true magical powers, and Wanda spends the performance trying to turn his real powers into fake magical acts. Again, the town folk are either choosing to pretend they do not see what is happening, or they are not paying attention.

Episode Three: We are now in the 1970’s and forgot to mention…Wanda became pregnant at the end of Episode Two! This is definitely not a regular pregnancy though, because in the span of about a day she eventually gives birth to twins. Geraldine, a neighbor in town comes to help deliver Wanda’s babies but shortly after Wanda becomes suspicious when Geraldine mentions Ultron killing her brother Pietro.

This is when you first start to realize that Wanda might know more than she is letting on. Wanda cast’s Geraldine out of her house, and the town, which leaves Geraldine lying in the middle of a field surrounded by trucks and surveillance equipment. We are now able to see what is happening “in the real world.”

Episode Four: We spend most of our time outside of the sitcom illusion, that it seems more likely that Wanda has created for herself, and now we are able to see the timeline of events a bit clearer. Monica (Geraldine) wakes up in a hospital after Ultron wiped half of the population off the earth, 3 years after she went to sleep in that same hospital. This is after the blip, and now Darcy (from Thor) is monitoring a broadcast from Westview of Wanda’s “sitcom”.

We also find out that Wanda has “cast” random people from the town of Westview and is essentially keeping them hostage. Westview is cut off from the rest of society. At the end of the episode, we flash to where Episode Three left off. Wanda has just cast Geraldine out of the sitcom and Vision returns asking what happened. For a split-second Wanda’s illusion is shattered and we see Vision as he really is, dead.

Episode Five: We are back in the sitcom, now in the 80’s, and Vision is definitely beginning to suspect something is wrong. The babies have the ability to age themselves quickly and while Agnes is over, they age from infants to 5 in the blink of an eye. Agnes doesn’t question a thing, which makes Vision very suspicious.

Vision later goes into work and receives an email from S.W.O.R.D that convinces him to take the sitcom illusion away from one of his coworkers, where it is revealed that the citizens of Westview do indeed know what Wanda is doing and they are in agony over being held hostage in their own minds.

Vision returns to the house to question Wanda, and she continues to deny anything is amiss. S.W.O.R.D eventually sends a drone into the town to kill Wanda, and she takes the drone and leaves the power field surrounding Westview. Wanda emerges, looking strong and deadly as ever, warning them to leave her alone before returning back to town.

At the end of the episode a knock on the door reveals none other than…her dead brother Pietro. Only this time he has been “recast” as the Silver Surfer from the XMEN movies.

So Now Let’s Discuss Theories!!!

WARNING: There are spoilers here concerning the actual Marvel Comics

Who is Agnes?

There is some speculation as to whether or not Agnes in WandaVision could be Agatha Harkness from the comics. Agatha is a witch and serves as a mentor to Wanda in the comics. Some people believe that Agnes wears the same symbol as Agatha in all of her scenes, which is a major linking factor for the two characters.

One other possible linking point is the bunny that Agnes brings for the magic show in Episode Two. She introduces the bunny as “Senor Scratchy” and although this MIGHT be reaching, Nicolas Scratch is Agatha Harkness’s son in the comics.

Who is Nicolas Scratch? Well, a super villain of course!

Is Director Hayward and S.W.O.R.D evil?

There are a lot of elements that point to Dr. Hayward being up to something suspicious. Most specifically when they flash back to Wanda stealing Visions body. Why was Vision’s body in pieces around S.W.O.R.D’s lab? My main question is WHY Wanda chose to steal Vision’s body. Was she saving the body after finding out that Director Hayward had malicious plans for Vision?

After we see Wanda leave the force field surrounding Westview at the end of Episode 5 she walks directly to Director Hayward and addresses him by name. They have to know each other. I think it is entirely possible that Wanda found out about the directors plans for Vision and now Hayward is trying to kill Wanda before she can reveal his plans.

Could Vision still be alive?

I hope so!!! This is definitely wishful thinking on my part, but I think there might be a small itty bitty ray of hope that he might still be alive?? I mean HE IS A ROBOT, and robots can be reconfigured right?

I feel like it is more likely that Wanda has had some sort of break down and is choosing to live inside her head. My personal belief is that Wanda saved Vision’s body from Director Hayward and after doing so broke down. She then created an alternate reality for herself, possibly reanimating Vision’s dead body OR just creating the illusion completely in her mind.

I think that WandaVision is taking the viewer through Wanda’s personal journey with grief over Vision’s death. I think that the series might end with her needing to somehow destroy Vision’s body in order to keep it safe from the director or anyone else who might want to use him for malicious purposes.

Is Wanda being manipulated?

There is also the theory that Wanda is being manipulated by the townsfolk in order to usher in the next MCU Villain…which signs point to being Mephisto. I personally feel like Wanda is in too much control of the illusion for this to be the case, but only time will tell!

5 Other Marvel Fans React to the first 5 Episodes of WandaVision

WandaVision Thoughts: I cannot get over how much I adore WandaVision. Yes, I knew I would like the series as a Marvel fan — but I never thought I would enjoy it this much! From the costumes to the classic set pieces, I love searching for all of the sitcom references spread throughout each episode. (I even *attempted* to make my own 1950s house dress inspired by Wanda’s in episode one!)

I have no idea how this season of WandaVision will end, but I do think it will lead up to Wanda’s role in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie. Multiverse? Madness?? Crazy things are certainly in store for Wanda and Doctor Strange — and I am here for it! I’m also crossing my fingers that Doctor Strange might show up at some point during WandaVision.

What _marvelousgeek has to say about the first 5 episodes of WandaVision

To say that I’m obsessed with WandaVision would be an understatement.
I’m not gonna lie, I never liked the MCU portrayal of Wanda. I genuinely and truly disliked her character so much, especially in Civil War. But there’s something about her in WandaVision that absolutely captivated me.

Maybe it’s the way she loves with all her might, knowing that a life with Vision is more than perfect. Maybe it’s the incredible format of the show, as if we were watching sitcoms through the ages. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m super invested in the new dream team (Monica, Darcy & Agent Woo). Although let’s face it, the best thing is seeing Wanda’s powers evolve.
Do I think she’s fully responsible for what’s happening in Westview? Not at all. Do I think Agnes has something to do with it? Oh yes, and I can’t wait to witness the absolute chaos that’s about to go down.

Rainbow Kitty Unicorn / @rainbow_kitty_unicorn

I am really enjoying the show so far and I have lots of theories!!! One theory that I think is a real possibility after watching episode five is:

I think that Wanda is controlling a doorway into the multiverse , that gives her the ability to bring characters who may be dead in this version of earth from another version. This would allow her to “recast” her brother Pietro from the original MCU actor, into the XMEN Silver Surfer.

Wanda is also bringing her kids into this version of earth, which are probably from other dimensions of earth as well. In the comics her son’s names are Wiccan and Speed.

What @storybookend has to say about the first 5 episodes of WANDAVISION

First thoughts after watching the first couple episodes of WandaVision. “What’s happening? What’s going on?! This is so weird! But I LOVE IT!!”

Now, WandaVision might start off strange. We have Wanda and Vision and they’re stuck in a tv series for some inexplicable reason. We have no context, no background, they’re just there on the small screen, and we’re supposed to roll with it.

Then strange things happen (well, strange to the characters, not us since it’s already really strange for us), and we’re left with some answers, but even more questions.

But not to worry! as the episodes have been progressing we’re starting to see more of the classic Marvel movie tone, and we do get some answers. Won’t say more, you will just have to watch it to find out.

However I will say that if you’ve seen shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show (Dyke was in fact consulted for WandaVision), I Love Lucy, and Full House, you will definitely feel the nostalgia.

So here are my thoughts thus far now that we’re more than halfway through the season: “These episodes are too short, I WANT MORE! I have so many questions. Things are getting interesting, but can’t we just get all the answers already?!” 😂

I was quite excited for WandaVision right from the start because Wanda is a total boss lady and it’s the first MCU series to debut on Disney+ ! The trailers didn’t reveal much about the plot of the series beforehand so I was really curious to see what everything is about. The first episodes didn’t do much to enlighten my understanding of things but nevertheless they did get me eager to see more.

And once the 4th episode rolled in, I was hooked for sure. I loved how they brought back more familiar faces (I’m such a sucker for crossovers haha) and we started to get a layout of the timeline and the larger premise of the show. And it started to regain the familiar MCU atmosphere, too.

I think WandaVision is definitely a fresh addition to my weekly TV schedule with its versatile visuals and ambiguous storytelling, and I’m really excited to see how everything will unfold even further.

“After episode 5 it’s clear that this show is here to continuously surprise us and to kick off Marvel’s Phase 4 with a serious BANG.”
