Barnes and Noble creates a list of books that they showcase each month with their Book of the Month titles, Book club picks and Discover Great New Reads title. I have gathered all of Barnes and Noble’s April book picks here and it looks like a great group of books. I have already read Pride and Premeditation, and loved it, but I definitely want to read The Bone Shard Daughter and With the Fire on High too! Fiction Book of the Month: Godshot

Desperate to restore the environment around them the residents all turn to Pastor Vern, a cult leader, for answers. 14 year old Lacey May is left alone when her mother is banished from the town for her sins, and she then begins a journey to find her. The author is being compared to Flannery O’ Connor for the writings grit and humor.

YA Book of the Month: With the Fire on High

With The Fire on High is a YA contemporary novel about a girl who gets pregnant her freshman year of highschool. She immediately begins to make decisions that will benefit herself, her daughter and her abuela but she finds peace and fun in the kitchens. Emoni loves to cook and she dreams of becoming a chef after graduating. It sounds like we will all start to feel very hungry after reading about Emoni’s amazing recipes.

Mystery Book of the Month: Three Hours in Paris

Three Hours in Paris is a historical mystery/thriller about an American female markswoman who is hired to kill Hitler during the three hours that he spends in Paris. If you enjoy historical fiction/mysteries set around WWII then this sounds like your perfect next read!

Speculative Fiction Book of the Month: The Bone Shard Daughter

The Bone Shard Daughter is about Lin, the daughter of the Emperor. When her father refuses to recognize her as heir she decides to master the forbidden art of Bone Shard magic in order to prove her worth and protect her people. I took a quick glimpse through Goodreads to check star ratings and almost everyone rates it at 4-5 stars so this has definitely earned a spot on my TBR.

Non Fiction Book of the Month: Late Migrations

Late Migrations is made up of a series of essays that revolve around both family, the transitions that one goes through during the different seasons of life and nature. The book also contains illustrations from the authors brother. It seems perfect for fans of Where the Crawdads Sing.

Adult Book Club Pick: The Five Wounds

The Five Wounds begins during Holy Week where Amadeo Padillo is practicing for his role as Jesus in the Good Friday procession. His 15 year old daughter shows up weeks away from giving birth and throws off his plans. The story then follows Amadeo, his daughter and the baby through a vivid and heartfelt story about family and redemption.

YA Book Club Pick: Pride and Premeditation

I received Pride and Premeditation as an ARC last month and I loved it!!! I 100% recommend you read it, whether you are a Pride and Prejudice fan or note!
